A special evening of art

-

Each year UBC Okanagan’s Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies, in association with the Visual Arts Course Union, hosts Art on the Line, a fundraiser and gala event that celebrates the work of local artists.

This popular event, now in its 16th year, brings together the local arts community in a lively, auction-style evening where participants are guaranteed to leave with an original piece of artwork. Proceeds from the gala support UBC Okanagan’s fourth-year Visual Arts Bachelor of Fine Arts exhibition, the visiting artist program, opportunities for travel grants and exhibitions, as well as the Cool Arts Society, a local nonprofit that provides art opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities.

Art on the Line features some 135 juried works of art on display for guests to appreciate and put on their wish list. The artwork, donated to the event from students, faculty, alumni and the community, is then raffled off to guests who have purchased tickets. No one knows until the end what piece of art they will be taking home.

Organizers are still collecting two-and three-dimensional artwork to be donated for the event. Local artists can visit www.artontheline.net/ to download a submission form or email artontheline.aotl@gmail.com with any questions.

Appetizers and refreshments for the gala will be provided by Relvas Catering, Tree Brewing and Arrowleaf Cellars. Along with great artwork, there are a number of raffle prizes to be won throughout the event. Tickets can be purchased at: www.eventbrite.ca/e/art-onthe-line-2018-tickets.

A donation of 10 per cent of the evening’s proceeds will also be made to the Cool Arts Society.
