Rock of Ages musical returns for encore

-

One of Kelowna-based New Vintage Theatre’s biggest hits is back for another run at the Rotary Centre for the Arts.

Rock of Ages played to sold-out houses last April.

“After our closing night we all knew that we wanted to do another run. The music, characters and our camaraderie was so strong we did not want it to end.

“We also sold out our run and many could not get tickets. So we immediately planned to rock again,” said director Bonnie Gratz in a news release.

The show features an ’80s rock soundtrack and a local all-star band with singer Julie Masi (Parachute Club) performing the music.

John Delaney returns to the role of Stacee Jaxx. New to the cast are Erik Chirkoff and Katie Dacre as Drew and Sherrie-the two were last seen in Grease.

“Most of the cast, dancers and musicians are back and we are thrilled to have been able to work together again,” said Gratz. “We have had so much fun revisiting these songs and working with Erik and Katie has been incredible. These really are two young artists who really are on the brink of stardom.”

The musical comedy about making it big in 1980s Los Angeles runs Jan. 5-7 and Jan. 10-13 at 7 p.m. Tickets are still available through the Rotary Centre box office. It is a 19-plus show, with a language and crude subject matter warning. Audiences are encouraged to dress ’80s and sponsor Underground Records will be doing draws for prizes for those who do.
