CAVE in Peachland

-

Dear editor: Mr, Eric Hall, while I might agree somewhat with your comment on the mayor calling the last council meeting “black day for Peachland,” (Courier, Jan. 14) the fact is that your group’s members were very rude and disrespectful through the meeting.

Not just to the council and mayor, but also to Peachland’s fire chief. When he asked some of your members to leave, they should have. In not doing that, the RCMP had to be called in. Again totally disrespectful. I don’t think you would have liked that, when you were councillor.

You say the approval process was flawed, but I tend to disagree with you. As you know, the OCP is a non-binding plan for the future. Both the charette report and the neighborhood plan are suggestions for future Beach Ave. development — not the law.

The community, if asked could very well be in support of the plan, how will we really get to know that? I am sure the community members who are in support of the plan will not show up for the Jan. 30 public hearing. They are commonly referred to as “the silent majority.” We will see them come election time.

The councillors were voted in to represent the people of Peachland, which they are doing, not the developer. I applaud the council for making this tough decision.

But they are doing it for the benefit of Peachland’s future and taxpayers — not the developers. Some of your members are the same ones who were against the Edgewater re-development and also the curling rink/recreation centre. A strong community must move forward for the community’s future generations. CAVE (citizens against virtually everything) mentality must be showed the door. Derek Bunce Peachland
