Final chance for voice to be heard

-

Dear editor: The Mission Group held an open house last week on their Aqua project. They are going before council at a public meeting on Tuesday Jan. 23 at 6 p.m.. It has come to our attention that taxpayers may be on the hook for costs associated with this project as the Mission Group wishes to have their application passed as soon as possible.

If city council approves the height and width variances of this project (up to 16 storeys on one of three towers and a fourstorey boat warehouse) city taxpayers potentially may be paying for environmental impact along the riparian zone, boardwalk, public washrooms, etc. and maintenance into the future.

You must contact the City before 4 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 22 to voice your opinions on this application for height and width variances from the official community plan of six storeys for buildings along the lake and one-storey boat storage.

City council must do their due-diligence on behalf of the citizens of Kelowna, please let your voice be heard. We only have to look at an almost $700,000 washroom being built at Gyro Beach to know that we taxpayers will be paying dearly for items that the City is willing to take on to move the Aqua project ahead. The last opportunity to voice your opinion will be at the public meeting at City Hall on Tuesday evening.
