Thieves return to scene of crime

Police say businesses were entered from chapel next door

Police are investigating after suspects allegedly broke through the drywall of a Rutland building and stole items from a chapel next door, then returned the next day.

On Jan. 16, Kelowna Mounties responded to a report of a break and enter in the electrical room of a commercial building at 164 Rutland Rd. N. at 11 a.m.

A suspect or suspects had punched through the drywall into the adjoining Redeemed Christian Church of God Christ Chapel, said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.

Once inside the chapel, the suspect stole microphones, a keyboard piano, a flat-screen television and a digital console.

“The loss of these items has had a significant effect on the chapel’s ability to fully operate,” said O’Donaghey.

Police returned to the commercial property the next day, when staff discovered another break-in had taken place.

“Evidence at the scene suggests that the suspect or suspects once again gained access to the RCGG Christ Chapel, then forced entry into the neighbouring hair salon and dog grooming business in the same manner,” said O’Donaghey.

Anyone with information is asked to call Const. Katherine Bizier at 250-762-3300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
