Couple assaulted by son

- By Daily Courier Staff

Police were called to an Armstrong home after two people reported they were being attacked by their adult son Tuesday night.

Vernon Mounties responded to a 911 call from a woman saying she and her husband were being attacked in their home by their adult son.

Upon arrival, officers found a 62-year-old woman and a 71-year-old man waiting for police outside their home.

They were visibly shaken and upset, said Const. Kelly Brett.

The suspect had allegedly assaulted the man and the woman and threatened them with a loaded cross bow.

Officers entered the home, as it was believed the suspect was still inside, but evidence led them to the back door, where the man had fled on foot.

A police dog led officers to the suspect, who was hiding in a neighbouring yard.

“Dash and his handler Cpl. Richard Gingras located the male after the track led them through many neighbouring yards (and) over fences,” said Brett.

The man was arrested without incident.

“Cases such as this are always higher risk for our police service dog, his handler and the members on scene, as they are tracking into the unknown, where further weapons could be present,”said Brett.

The victims sustained minor injuries and were offered medical attention and access to victim services.

The 32-year-old Armstrong man remains in custody and is facing potential charges of two counts of assault and assault with a weapon.

He was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
