The rest of B.C. disagrees, Horgan
Dear editor: Re: “Alberta ban on B.C. wine ‘devastating’ for Okanagan,” (Courier, Feb. 7).
Premier John Horgan you are wrong. While not normally the party I support, until the decision to attempt to stall the Kinder Morgan twinning project, I had been pleasantly surprised. Because you have caved to the three Green MLAs in your coalition, you have not only put our wine industry in jeopardy, but also the jobs of thousands British Columbians who work in the oilsands.
This project which given the green light by our federal government who also ponied up the funds to assure as best can, the safety to the environmental concerns of the project. I suggest you do a poll provincewide and not just in the bloated and elitist Lower Mainland — where more detractors are probably concerned with their billiondollar view than the actual environment — to determine how the province truly feels.
In spite of the popular belief from self-indulgent coasties that all British Columbians should work as computer geeks and baristas, a majority of the wealth that props up your bloated and pampered lifestyle comes from resource-based jobs throughout the rest of the province.
So to deny Alberta’s opportunity to get their product to market is wrong and Alberta should have the right to retaliate as they see fit. As far as the threat of three Greens bringing down your coalition goes, that won’t happen.
While Green party leader Andrew Weaver may huff and puff, he wouldn’t dare bring the house down before the referendum on how B.C. votes. Andy Richards Summerland
