Dr. Ball does valuable research
Dear Editor: Once again the Daily Courier regurgitates misleading information about climate science and scientists.
In a part opinion, part reporting, Katie Derosa of the Victoria Times Colonist mischaracterizes Dr. Tim Ball as a “climatechange denier” (Daily Courier, Feb. 15). That is an utter falsehood but part of the agenda that got Dr. Andrew Weaver in trouble and part of which had his SLAPP lawsuit thrown out of court.
Dr. Ball is not a “climate-change denier,” indeed he publicly has stated he fully accepts that climate has and is changing. Indeed climate has always changed. What Dr. Ball denies is that anthropogenic global warming (which “climate change” used to be called, but which was proven false by observed data over the past 20 years or so and so the moniker was changed to “climate change.” The public needs to read Dr. Ball’s “Human caused global warming: the biggest deception in history.”)
What is indeed sad in Derosa’s piece is that the judge weighed in on climate science, something that he is not an expert in, and really had no right nor mandate to speak about. Contrary to the judge’s spurious opinion there is a very large and growing body of peer-reviewed science that disproves anthropogenic global warming and that CO2 does not and indeed cannot warm the earth as climate alarmists claim. The things that do warm the earth and contribute most to climate change include the sun, oceanic currents, the earth’s orbit and tilt, and other entirely natural forces.
Unfortunately there are some very wellentrenched and vested interests, including in the media, which utilize SLAPP lawsuits (strategic lawsuit against public participation), along with malicious, misleading and deliberate mischaracterization (“denier”) of those who question their own opinions. Sad that the Daily Courier continues to be amongst the latter. Jim Church
