Kelowna Rockets forward inks 3-year contract with NHL team

Kelowna Rockets’ leading goalscorer Carsen Twarynski signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the NHL’s Philadelph­ia Flyers on Monday.

Twarynski, 20, was drafted in the third round, 82nd overall, in 2016.

The Calgary native is in his second season with the Rockets. Twarynski has appeared in 255 WHL games split between Kelowna and the Calgary Hitmen.

The power forward has racked up 86 goals and 94 assists for 180 points. He also boasts a career rating of plus-37. Twarynski is having a breakout season this year in Kelowna, currently leading the club in goals with 43.

Since being acquired at the trade deadline last season, Twarynski has played in 94 regular season games with the Rockets, scoring 50 goals and 42 assists. He also added three goals and two assists in 16 playoff games.

No terms were released. Maximum entry-level contracts for NHL rookies are $925,000.

Twarynski and the Rockets are back in action on Wednesday when they host the Prince George Cougars at Prospera Place.

They play again at home on Saturday night as they host the Vancouver Giants to close out the regular season. Puck drop for both games is at 7 p.m.
