Woman arrested in cases of arson in Armstrong area

-

An Armstrong woman has been arrested and is facing charges relating to a string of arsons in the area.

Vernon RCMP were called to assist the Armstrong Fire Department, who were on scene at two suspected arsons in the 3000 block of Okanagan Street just before 9 p.m. Monday.

A set of tires had been lit on fire beside a garage at one home and a back deck of another home down the street.

Both fires were extinguished before causing extensive damage, said Const. Kelly Brett.

While responding to those two fires, officers learned another alleged arson had just occurred in the 2200 block of Okanagan Street, where the suspect attempted to light two cars on fire and fled the area, said Brett.

A local resident observed a suspicious person in the area and provided a detailed description of the suspect and vehicle to officers, who located and arrested the suspect.

Between March 8 and March 12, six suspicious fires have been reported in the Armstrong area, with varying levels of damage.

No one was injured as a result of any of the fires.

All are being treated as arsons, and the investigation is in the early stages, said Brett.

A 60-year-old Armstrong woman remains in custody and is facing possible charges of arson in relation to the recent fires.
