I was never on Facebook

Victoria Mayor Lisa Helps is among the prominent politicians who is saying “enough is enough” to Facebook. She’s pulling her account.

They won’t get mine. I never had one.

Yes, I’m one of the few people on the planet without a Facebook account. I monitor and post for the

Kelowna Daily Courier and upon occasion The Penticton Herald, but in order to be able to be an administrator, I must have an account. So I registered Milo, my dog. Facebook is a useful took for drawing traffic to our website on important stories.

But, I just never felt anybody cared about: a.) What I had for lunch; b.) My opinion on a local shop where I received terrible service;

c.) Reposting a cute video of a cat with flatulence;

d.) Complaining about the guy who cut me off on Highway 97.

I do have friends and family from out-of-province. To stay in touch with them, I pick up the phone and call them. At Christmas and their birthdays, I mail them a card.

Let’s imagine for a moment if the internet was invented before the telephone. People would think: “Wow, this telephone is a great thing. I don’t have to type and I can speak directly with the person.”

Every year I’m looking for someone to do a trade on Girl Guide cookies. I much prefer the vanilla ones, but I know there are a lot of people who like the chocolate ones better. I’d like to exchange all of my chocolates for all of someone’s vanillas.

Sam Cooke was gone far too soon.

The NCAA “March Madness” basketball tournament is the best sporting championship in the world because it’s single knockout. It’s none of this best-of-seven nonsense. Show up and play. That’s one of the reasons why we’ve seen so many upsets this year. The longer the series, the less likely of an upset. Anybody can beat anybody on a given day.

Well, maybe not the Canucks.

A tribute to John Denver is coming next weekend to both Vernon and Kelowna. This is long overdue. John Denver is one of the most under-rated musicians to come out of the 1970s.

Milo might be running for a spot on Penticton City Council. His platform will include, but is not limited to: all city parks being off-leash, pets being allowed in all bars and restaurants, and a reduction in fees for dog licences.

Hedley is certainly having a lot of bad things said about them. I will say that I photographed a meet-and-greet that the band had when they played in Penticton in 2010. I vividly remember a young disabled couple going through the line and the guys in the band — Jacob in particular — being extremely kind. “Wheelchair,” he yelled as the other three quickly pushed a table to the side in order to make for a better photograph.

A difference in news judgement. CNN was talking about Stormy Daniels all week; the Republicanfriendly FOX News about North Korea.
