A portion of Lower Glenrosa Road will be closed for several more days.

The road between Glencoe and Glenway Roads was damaged during heavy rains on Thursday and closed immediately.

On Friday, West Kelowna Mayor Doug Findlater declared a local state of emergency, which allows city workers to go on private property to make repairs.

Thirteen millimetres of rain fell in a short burt on Thursday, according to Environment Canada’s Kelowna weather station, causing erosion, collapse of part of the road and uprooting a utility pole.

Debris had to be removed Àrst, the utility pole stabilized and then the road rebuilt.

In the meantime, motorists are urged to use Glenrosa Road as an alternative. Those who use the Route 21 bus on Lower Glenrosa Road will have to access it via Webber Road. Pedestrians also are asked not to use the area. The torrential rain and Áooding also prompted West Kelowna to increase Áood-risk monitoring of public infrastructure.

The municipality is urging homeowners in Áood-prone areas to take precautions and protect their property.

Thursday’s rain and Áooding also led to the declaration of a state of emergency in Armstrong.

Meighan Creek in Armstrong surged more than half a metre and Áooded units at a local seniors home, forcing the evacuation of 10 residents.
