Prospera Place needs handrails

-

Dear editor: Re: Hand rails at Prospera Place This is an issue voiced several times. Despite the voices of a vast number of people, for reasons that I am not sure of, the wishes of citizens are being ignored. I am not alone in believing that there is something wrong. It is interesting, but not surprising, that Prospera’s management or the City of Kelowna will not take responsibility for installing railings going up the stairways at the complex.

After another hockey game at Prospera Place goes by, another person falls down the stairs because of no hand rails. Hand rails would elevate the ability to get to your seat safely, easier and most of all, you would not need to wait for help to get to your seat.

I have heard that there is a prototype already made that fits and it is made here in Kelowna. The City of Kelowna needs to step up and help get arena management to install these hand rails. Too many people have fallen. The responsibility has been passed on, someone needs to get it done. The City needs to make this a bylaw for public buildings for the citizen’s safety. This is not just for hockey fans but for all events that occur at Prospera Place. Let’s get these handrails installed.

The Apple Bowl has hand rails, so there should be no reason why Prospera Place cannot have hand rails.

It is no wonder that the seniors are not renewing their season tickets with it being so hard to get to their seat. Please, citizens of Kelowna, write the City, MLA or Prospera Place management. Let’s get together and get this done.

I guess this wouldn’t be done for this season but maybe by the start of next year, something will finally get done. Anita Clausen
