Smokies in hole; ex-Vee powers P.G.

The Trail Smoke Eaters find themselves in another 2-0 series hole in the Interior final, while a former Penticton Vees forward has had a big impact through two games in the Coastal Conference final.

Jasper Weatherby scored twice and Sam Morton netted the winner with 9:39 to play as the Wenatchee Wild beat the visiting Smoke Eaters 4-2 Saturday to open up a 2-0 lead in the B.C. Hockey League Interior Conference championsh­ip series.

Zak Galambos also scored as Wenatchee won its sixth straight playoff game. Seth Barton and Connor Welsh scored for Trail, who were outshot 28-17.

In Game 1 on Friday, Penticton product Nathan Iannone scored and Weatherby racked up three assists as Wenatchee prevailed 5-2 at the Town Toyota Center.

Galambos, Lucas Sowder, Slava Demin and AJ Vanderbeck also scored as Wenatchee exploded for four second-period goals to overturn a 1-0 deficit.

Levi Glasman and Braeden Tuck scored for Trail, who were outshot 34-20.

The scene shifts to Trail for Games 3 and 4 Tuesday and Wednesday.

KINGS vs. KINGS: Former Vee Ben Brar logged a goal and two assists as Prince George beat visiting Powell River 5-1 Saturday to grab a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Brar now has eight goals in the post-season.

In Game 1 on Friday, Brar broke a 1-1 tie with 5:10 to go as Prince George prevailed 2-1.

KIJHL FINAL: The Kimberley Dynamiters parlayed home advantage to a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven Kootenay Internatio­nal Junior Hockey League championsh­ip series.

In Game 2 on Saturday, James Farmer produced a hat-trick and the Dynamiters built period leads of 3-0 and 4-1 en route to a 5-1 win in front of 1,077 fans.

In Game 1 on Friday, Brandt Bertola’s power play goal at 4:38 of the second overtime period gave Kimberley a 2-1. Game 3 is tonight.
