Something funny going on here

- By ANDREA PEACOCK

It’s all funny business for the Kelowna Plaid Bandits.

A Kelowna woman who spends her days writing commercials for radio has assembled a team to start a YouTube comedy channel, which launched on April Fool’s Day.

“If it’s funny, we’re willing to give it a shot,” Bandit creator Nikki Love said.

In the first video — called Using April Fool’s Day as a Mediocre Cover-up — a woman pretends she was playing an April Fool’s joke on a man when he rejects her offer to go on a date.

“Our sole intention is to make you snort Pinot Grigio out of your nose,” said Love. “But beyond that, it’s a place for creative people to play.”

This is Love’s first foray into comedy outside of her radio commercials.

“I’d like to think I’m somewhat of a funny person, but I’ve never done any stand-up or anything like that.”

They’ll release two more videos this week, and after that new videos will be posted about once a month.

The sketches will be about three minutes long and will focus on everyday relatable topics.

“We can do whatever we want with it,” said Love. “I work with a lot of creative people in my regular job, and we wanted to have another outlet to do even more creative things. It’s all volunteer-based for people who just want to have fun creating, regardless of skill level.”

More than a dozen people are involved with the channel in a variety of roles, both on camera and off, and Love is looking for more people to join the team.

“There are lots of people that want to act or they want to try filming, but they’ve never done it before, and they’re too scared to try it on their own or to go to the theatre and go to an audition,” said Love. “I want to keep it so no matter what the skill level is, anyone can get involved here. You should just want to have some fun and try something new.”
