OC Coyotes host Fraser Valley today

-

The Okanagan College Coyotes improved to 6-5 in Canadian College Baseball Conference play by sweeping a three-game set against the rival Thompson Rivers University Wolfpack of Kamloops last weekend, and will look to keep the ball rolling today in hosting the start of a home-and-home series against the University of Fraser Valley Cascades.

Today’s doubleheader at Elks Stadium is set to start at 3 p.m.

The Coyotes are back within striking distance of first place, but the Cascades have also been playing well and will be a good test.

Against TRU, the Coyotes outscored the Wolfpack 27-7 and outhim them 34-18 over the three games, winning 13-2, 2-0 and 12-5.

The Coyotes hit six home runs in that series and also got quality pitching throughout.

In the games held at Elks this past Sunday, the OC pitchers continued their streak of not giving up earned runs as they shut out the Wolfpack 2-0 in that opener.

Starter Aiden Mordecai, a sophomore from Cloverdale, threw six innings, allowing five hits, walking five and striking out three before OC turned to its bullpen.

Zac Yandeau (senior, Plumas, Man.) tossed two innings in relief and Trevor Brigden (senior, Toronto) closed the door for the Coyotes.

Davis Todosichuk of Kelowna led off the game with his first home run of the season, and Jared Frew clubbed his third homer of the campaign in the fourth to account for OC’s scoring.

In the finale, OC’s offence connected for four runs in both the second and third innings, and tacked on two more in the fourth to take a 10-2 lead.

TRU chipped away at that deficit with three runs over the next four innings, but the Coyotes responded with two runs in the eighth to round out the scoring.
