Okanagan athletes bound for Columbia

A team of trampoline athletes from the Okanagan just finished competing at the Canada Cup in Montreal.

Travis Towers, Taya Lawless, Jordyn Yendley, Andrew Martin and Emily Welsh all represente­d the Okanagan Gymnastics Centre.

The Canada Cup is a trial event for Worlds and World Age Groups. This event is limited to National Level athletes. This is the event where the athletes can earn their spot in the Junior or Senior category if they can attain a high enough score.

Yendley finished in second place on junior double mini trampoline and fourth on trampoline.

Towers, of Vernon, finished ninth in Level 6 Under 17 trampoline.

Lawless finished eighth on Level 5 17+ double mini trampoline and 17th in Level 5, 17+ individual trampoline.

Welsh finished 10th in Level 6, 17+ trampoline. Martin finished 15th in Senior Men’s trampoline.

Immediatel­y following the Canada Cup, Yendley, Martin and their coach, Jamie Gardner, headed to Medellin, Columbia, to represent Team Canada at the 2018 Pacific Rim Championsh­ips.

Gardner was recently named by Gymnastics Canada as the Team Canada coach who will attend with all of the Team Canada athletes.

Okanagan Gymnastics Centre will host Trampoline and Tumbling Team Tryouts on June 10, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Register online or at the office.
