Familiar faces to entertain at winery

Mission Hill bringing back Chris Isaak, Chris Botti, Gipsy Kings to outdoor amphitheatre

Why mess with success? West Kelowna’s Mission Hill Family Estate is bringing back three acts to perform in its spectacular outdoor amphitheatre overlooking vineyards and Okanagan Lake this summer.

Rocker Chris Isaak, who first played the winery in 2012, will take the stage June 23.

Jazz trumpeter Chris Botti is back for a fourth time Aug. 8.

And flamenco-rumba-salsa ensemble the Gipsy Kings will also be a four-peat on Aug. 11.

Tickets for all three shows go on sale at 10 a.m. today at MissionHillWinery.com and 250762-5050.

In the past, tickets have sold out in a matter of days, if not hours.

Tickets to the Isaak and Botti concerts start at $119 and the Gipsy Kings at $149.

“We are thrilled to welcome these exceptional musical performers to the winery this summer,” said Mission Hill owner Anthony von Mandl.

“There is something extraordinarily special about this intimate hilltop location. A performance under the open sky at our outdoor amphitheatre is a truly unforgettable experience.”

For the first time this year, the winery is also staging a concert that can be attended only by members of its Privilege Club.

The artist for that show, on July 20, is nine-time Grammy winner Sheryl Crow.

The Privilege Club is the group for which wine lovers can purchase a membership for $600 a year to receive three shipments of wine and other perks annually from Mission Hill.

Tickets for that show went on sale last week and sold out to members in a matter of hours.

The $275 ticket includes a wine and canapes party in the courtyard before Crow takes the stage.

No doubt she’ll sing the greatest hits from her extensive catalogue including All I Wanna Do is Have Some Fun (1994), If It Makes You Happy (1996), My Favourite Mistake (1998) and Soak Up the Sun (2002).

Mission Hill bills the concerts as much more than a musical act on stage.

Many concert-goers arrive early to mingle, glass of Mission Hill wine in hand, of course.

There’s also the opportunity to enjoy a pre-concert dinner at the on-site Terrace restaurant or attend a pre-concert reception.

And the outdoor seating for 1,000 people on the sloped lawn is touted as an intimate, small-capacity setting to see big-name acts.

Isaak’s biggest hits are Wicked Game (1990) and Baby Did a Bad, Bad Thing (1995).

Botti, who won a Grammy in 2013 for best pop instrumental album, usually brings a guest vocalist with him.

The Gipsy Kings are from the south of France but sing in Spanish.

Even so, you’ll probably recognize their hottest music, including Bamboleo (1988), Volare (1989), Vamos A Bailar (1989) and Oh Eh Oh Eh, one of the theme songs for the World Cup of Soccer held in France in 1998.
