League final set to resume in Everett tonight
Silvertips, Swift Current tied at 1-1 in best-of-7
The WHL championship series is tied 1-1 as the scene shifts to Everett, Wash., for three games this week, with the Silvertips hosting the Swift Current Broncos tonight, Wednesday and Friday.
GAME 2 BRONCOS 4, SILVERTIPS 3 (OT)
SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. — Giorgio Estephan scored the winner at 9:27 in overtime as the Broncos topped the Silvertips 4-3 to even the Western Hockey League final at one game apiece on Saturday night.
Matteo Gennaro, Colby Sissons and Tyler Steenbergen also scored for the Broncos.
Matt Fonteyne, Martin Fasko-Rudas and Riley Sutter replied for the Silvertips.
Stuart Skinner kicked out 40 shots for Swift Current, while Carter Hart made 34 saves for Everett. The Broncos went 0-for-2 on the power play and the Silvertips were for-3 with the man advantage.
GAME 1 SILVERTIPS 2, BRONCOS 1
SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. — Hart made 34 saves as the Silvertips squeaked out a 2-1 win over the Broncos in their series opener on Friday.
Connor Dewar scored the game-winning goal for the Silvertips at 1:49 of the third period.
Patrick Bajkov opened the scoring with a power-play goal for Everett at 14:43 in the first.
Aleksi Heponiemi responded for the Broncos. Skinner stopped 23 shots for Swift Current. The Broncos went 0-for-1 on the power play. The Silvertips were 1-for-2 with the man advantage.
The winner of this best-of-seven series for the WHL’s Ed Chynoweth Cup will advance to the Memorial Cup in Regina later this month.
