Oil prices must be brought into the fold

-

Dear editor: I am writing to voice my disgust and derision with how the NDP government is handling the high gas prices in B.C. Together with their co- conspirators — the Green Party — they are holding the province hostage by doing nothing in approving the pipeline for Kinder Morgan.

The NDP party is operating under the assumption that they have a mandate to break the law and continue to hold up the continuation of the pipeline. The NDP, nor the Green Party do not represent me in this regard as they couldn’t form government without the two of them joining up. Therefore, there’s no honest mandate from the people.

If either of these two parties had the gumption, intestinal fortitude and courage they would call an election and get an honest mandate from the people.

I would rather have an election and get a bona fide mandate and pay for the election rather than be at the mercy of the oil companies, as it appears they fear these companies for some reason.

To all the people voicing their opinion at the Burnaby Mountain site, you are certainly free to voice your displeasure and opposition, but I am curious if anyone that is coordinating these protests is keeping track of the amount of fuel that is being used to get to the site and also how many buses have been chartered to cut down the carbon footprint.

We, as citizens, have to abide by the rules of the public utilities, such as Fortis, BC Hydro, and ICBC. As we need these services to survive in this province, why haven’t the oil prices been brought into the fold? We all have to purchase fuel, most of us anyway, therefore they should be regulated to protect us and the rest of the province from price gouging and unscrupulous operators.

Needless to say, I am in favour of the pipeline. It should be completed. John O’Flaherty Kelowna
