Driver hits bike, takes off
Kelowna police are looking for the driver involved in Tuesday morning’s hit-and-run collision with a cyclist at the intersection of Gordon Drive and Springfield Road.
RCMP first received a report around 8:30 a.m., about half an hour after the collision.
A young cyclist had gotten off her bike to walk it across Springfield Road.
As she stepped off the curb at the northwest corner, a vehicle struck her bike and the girl fell to the ground.
“We are told the driver of the vehicle involved pulled around the injured child, stopped momentarily without exiting their vehicle and drove away seconds later,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.
“The young girl, who was shaken from the incident, also sustained some injuries as a result of her fall.”
Police are asking any witnesses they haven’t spoken to yet to contact them in an effort to identify the hit-and-run vehicle and driver.
The vehicle has been described by some witnesses as a white four-door sedan. A woman might have been behind the wheel.
The car could have markings and damage to its right front passenger side from the impact with the bike.
“Bystanders, who were understandably focused on rushing to the aid of the youth, were unfortunately unable to obtain a licence plate number for the now-suspect vehicle,” added O’Donaghey.
