Fuhr delivered in short time frame
Dear editor: In the last few weeks, you have published several letters that have, quite rightly, been critical of the writings of Dan Albas. As an aside, I sincerely hope that you are not paying Albas for this so-called content.
Stan Gooch’s recent letter pointed out Kelowna-Lake Country member of Parliament Stephen Fuhr’s considerable achievement in bringing almost $90 million in federal grants to local projects and organizations — all this in the space of just two years, whilst chairing the standing committee on national defence.
I had rather hoped that in last week’s column, Albas might have felt moved to say something about his own achievements. Alas, that was not the case and the article is more of the same old negativity.
I have reviewed Albas’s website. There is lots about how low his travel expenses are and his voting record, but nothing about funding and grants for community projects in the last couple of years, or indeed his first two years in office or indeed his whole time in office.
Could this be because his website is a bit out of date?
Or, could it be that he has just not achieved very much apart from a good voting record and kept his expenses low. Both are important, but rather unimaginative measures of success and probably the minimum one should expect from a member of Parliament?
So my fellow readers in the real world: results count and Fuhr has delivered an impressive amount in a short time scale. That is what is important. John Bailey Kelowna
