MISCHIEF IN RUTLAND May 20-22 RCMP file: 2018-27458

Recent activities in Rutland indicate that a group of teenagers seem to be running amok.vOn May 20, a mischief in progress was reported at 11:15 p.m. when a witness watched a group of 20 or more kids smashing two City of Kelowna vehicles in the parking lot at the YMCA on Hartman Road. A short time later a security company employee called to report windows at the nearby Rutland Activity Centre were smashed, probably occurring just before the vehicles were vandalized.

On the morning of May 22, police were called back to the Activity Centre when it was reported a break and enter had occurred, with nothing being stolen, but the doors had been badly damaged.

At 11:11 p.m. on May 22, a woman called the RCMP to report mischief in progress at the public washrooms located on the Rutland sports fields. A group of youths had destroyed all the toilets and sinks in both of the washrooms.

THEFT OF TRAILER May 26 RCMP file: 2018-28333

The owner of an RV parked at a storage lot on Pinto Road was notified by the lot’s manager on May 26 that his trailer had been stolen overnight. The missing trailer is a white 2011 Energy travel trailer with VIN 4YDT28028B­N830073 and B.C. plate number UTH24B. The trailer contained many items including fishing gear, a TV, a chainsaw and a boat motor.

THEFT FROM GAS STATION May 29 RCMP file: 2018-29078

On May 29, a representa­tive from a gas station in the 1100 block of Industrial Road in West Kelowna reported a theft that had occurred earlier that morning.

A man drove up to the business at approximat­ely 4 a.m. in a white work truck with a flashing amber light on top and helped himself to four propane tanks, 25-30 oil containers, washer fluid and fire wood. If you recognize this person of interest, contact Crime Stoppers or West Kelowna RCMP.

THEFT OF SOLAR PANELS AND BATTERIES May 30 RCMP file: 2018-23830

Sometime over the weekend between May 4 and 7, suspects entered a worksite on Hudson Road and Highway 97 South and stole equipment belonging to a traffic control company.

The thieves took a solar panel mounted on an “arrow” trailer used in road constructi­on and eight black six-volt deep cell batteries. Total value of stolen equipment is approximat­ely $10,000.

BREAK AND ENTER May 29 RCMP file: 2018-29124

Thieves entered a home on the 10000 block of Okanagan Centre Road East between 10 a.m. and p.m. on May 29.

The thieves may have taken advantage of a door unintentio­nally left unlocked.

The owners are now missing a dark brown Asus K556U slim screen 15.6” laptop (s/n G7N0CV10P4­16295), a black Sony DSCH50 Cybershot digital camera with case, charger, memory card and extra battery, and three small cardboard boxes containing assorted women’s jewelry.

The jewelry pieces are silver and include necklaces (several with turquoise coloured stones and one with a Roman glass pendant), turquoise spiral earrings and a bracelet with small interlocki­ng hearts.

CANADA REVENUE AGENCY FRAUD ATTEMPTS May 30

There have been several incidences of fraud reported to Lake Country RCMP in the last week; at least two of the reports involve scammers contacting victims by phone impersonat­ing agents from the Canada Revenue Agency.

The fraudsters inform the victims that they owe the CRA money in taxes or they will be arrested.

The scammers ask for the payments in bitcoin or iTunes gift cards.

Please know that the Canadian Revenue Agency will never ask to pay an outstandin­g debt in Bitcoin or any kind of gift card and will never threaten you.
