This week, it’s Canada’s turn

-

Dear editor: Re: “Trump backs out of G7 accord after leaving summit in Quebec,” June 10.

One difference between U.S. citizens and Canadians is that we in the U.S. get to be embarrassed by our leadership daily, while Canadians seem to save this sentiment for special occasions.

We’ve realized that pretty much everyone will eventually be insulted or bullied by President Donald Trump, given enough time. This week, it’s Canada’s turn.

Rest assured that (a) you are in good company, (b) he’ll likely have forgotten all about it within a week and (c) lashing out at our closest friends appalls even Trump’s few public supporters.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is to be commended for standing up to the tyrant, whose heavy-handed trade tactics have almost no support here. Most bullies are cowards, and Trump will back down. The more rounds this goes, the more fans Trudeau gains south of the border.
