Conservatives cut military spending

-

Dear Editor: I am dismayed to see that Dan Albas and the Conservative party vote to cut funding to the RCMP when the Liberals brought forward the 2018 budget.

How is it that less police on the streets and less money to buy new equipment and protective gear is going to help reduce crime? The lack of support shown by the Conservatives is going to make it harder to catch criminals in our communities. For a party that claims to be “tough on crime,” I’d like to know how voting against funding for the RCMP is going to help.

I suppose it’s not surprising to see Albas vote against every budget item put forward by the Liberal party. We watched as he voted against raising taxes on Canada’s wealthiest one per cent and lowering taxes for the middle class in 2016. More shocking was seeing the entire Conservative caucus vote against giving families support to help with the high cost of raising children.

Just this one initiative put in place by the Liberals, that the Conservative party refused to support, is credited with lifting 315,000 children out of poverty.

Clearly, it’s Stephen Fuhr, our KelownaLake Country MP and the Liberal party who are working hard to support our police, children and families with the funding and programs needed to make our communities safer and better for children and families. That’s something I’ll support. Alice Mah Wren
