Woman with stroller, 2 kids struck by hit-and-run driver in Rutland

-

Police are searching for witnesses after a woman pushing a stroller with two children was hit at a Rutland intersection Tuesday morning.

Kelowna RCMP received a report of a hit-and-run collision between a woman and a vehicle in the intersection of Gerstmar Road and Elwyn Road at 8:56 a.m.

The woman was walking north on Gerstmar Road, crossing Elwyn Road, when she saw a vehicle accelerating toward her.

The woman managed to push the stroller out of the way before being struck on her left side, said Cpl. Tania Carroll.

The woman said she was sent into the air before landing on the pavement.

The vehicle did not stop, driving eastbound on Elwyn Road.

The woman was treated for numerous injuries.

The two children, aged three and five, were not hurt.

The vehicle involved in the incident has been described as a newer blue four-door sedan.

The vehicle could have markings or damage to its left front passenger side.

“We are asking residents who live in the area with property cameras and dash cameras to please review their video footage and contact police if you believe you captured this collision or this vehicle,” said Carroll.

Witnesses are asked to call the RCMP at 250-762-3300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 to remain anonymous.
