New choir forms for teens

-

The Okanagan Children’s Choir is expanding to add a new choir for teenagers.

The Okanagan Children’s Choir has been in place for the past three years.

A new ensemble, OCC Youth, is starting for singers in Grades 8-10. It will be conducted by Taylor Bone, a choral conductor and music teacher at KLO Middle School.

“Taylor is a wonderful addition to our OCC artistic staff,” said OCC artistic director Frances Chiasson. “I am really looking forward to having her work with our new choir of teens and to the Okanagan community getting to know this wonderful musician and teacher.”

The choir will perform at a variety of venues throughout the Okanagan both on its own and in joint performances with the children’s choir.

“We hope to give young singers guidance to continue singing through their voice changes and to gain confidence in themselves,” said Bone.

Singers of all experience levels are invited to audition for the youth choir, which will rehearse on Thursdays at First United Church in Kelowna from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
