Strong showing for OGC athletes at nationals
Yendley shines in Lethbridge with several podium finishes to lead the local contingent
Okanagan Gymnastics Centre (OGC) showed great performances at this year’s Canadian Championships in Lethbridge, Alta., this past weekend.
OGC had eight athletes attend that were representing Team BC.
Canadian Championships is a trial event for the World Age Group Championships, which will take place in November 2018 in St. Petersburg, Russia.
Jordyn Yendley competed in five events and finished with first place in junior double mini trampoline and second place in junior individual trampoline.
Jordyn and her synchro partner, Alexandra Boucher, of Calgary, finished with the silver medal in synchronized trampoline.
Yendley also took part in team finals in trampoline and double mini and helped B.C. finish fourth on trampoline and second on double mini.
Yendley has had an commendable year and is on track to qualifying to the World Age Group Championships in November.
Travis Towers, who lives in Vernon but trains in Kelowna, competed in four events: trampoline, double mini trampoline and the team finals for both events.
On individual trampoline, Level 6 men’s, Towers finished second and he also finished second in double mini trampoline. His best finish was first place in the finals for the men’s team.
Andrew Martin placed sixth in senior men’s trampoline, competing against 17 other athletes.
Emily Welsh competed in Level 6, 18-plus trampoline placing sixth and coming fourth in double mini trampoline.
Taya Lawless competed in Level 5, 17-plus and finished 25th in trampoline and 13th in double mini trampoline.
Three Okanagan trampoline athletes attended their first Canadian Championships.
Madison Eagle competed in Level 5, women’s 16 Under and made finals in both double mini and trampoline.
Eagle was competing against 38 other athletes on double mini and finished in eighth place. She also finished in seventh place in individual trampoline, competing against 49 other athletes.
Janiah Harris came 25th in individual trampoline and 26th on double mini in the same category as teammate Eagle.
Max Vandenburg competed in Level 5, men’s 16 Under trampoline and finished in 27th place.
