Police seek suspect in longboard assault
Police are searching for a suspect following an assault Saturday night in downtown Kelowna.
RCMP responded to a report of an assault near the corner of Queensway Avenue and Pandosy Street at 8:28 p.m.
One male was found unresponsive and was tended to by civilians and security officers until BC Ambulance Service paramedics arrived and took him to hospital.
The victim suffered serious injuries after being hit in the head with a longboard, said Cpl. Tania Carroll.
The suspect has not been located or identified.
While some witnesses stayed in the area and spoke with police, investigators believe several other witnesses who may have filmed the altercation left the scene before speaking with police.
“These are the people that we are hoping will contact investigators and allow their cellphone footage to be viewed,” said Carroll. “Our investigators are interested in gathering all available evidence and would like to encourage any and all additional witnesses to come forward to police.”
Police have obtained some surveillance video footage from the area.
The suspect is described as a male wearing a red baseball hat with a white graphic on it, black pants with diagonal white stripes around the front right ankle and white fabric on the inner thighs, a darkcoloured T-shirt with a white graphic on the chest and across the back, and a long-sleeved shirt or sweatshirt tied around his waist.
Investigators are also interested in hearing from anyone who may have seen this male at any other time that day.
Witnesses are asked to call police at 250-470-6329 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 to remain anonymous.
