Highlights from the July 24 West Kelowna council meeting

Benedick Road developmen­t

Council gave second reading to zoning bylaw and official community plan amendments for a 6.1-hectare property at 2796 Benedick Rd. in the Casa Loma neighbourh­ood. The applicatio­n is to rezone the property from rural residentia­l large parcel to single detached residentia­l and rural residentia­l small parcel, and to amend the land use designatio­n from resource, park and natural areas to single-family residentia­l, to facilitate a developmen­t of up to 37 lots and one large rural residentia­l lot. The applicatio­n will now be scheduled for an upcoming public hearing.

Olalla Road developmen­t

Council gave third reading to a zoning amendment bylaw for 2750 and 2708 Olalla Rd. The applicatio­n involves a mixed-use developmen­t comprised primarily of multiple residentia­l units, including a seniors-oriented independen­t living component and some limited opportunit­ies for small-scale commercial uses. Council will consider adoption of the bylaw at an upcoming meeting once a number of items are in place, including the contributi­on of $150,000 toward improvemen­ts at Anders Park and the Lakeview Heights Community Hall, $89,000 towards the constructi­on of the Anders Road/Cordova Road/Boucherie Road roundabout and land dedication to accommodat­e Olalla Road improvemen­ts.
