Sponsors, golfers wanted for health network tournament
Students Taylor Rogers and Carly Suddard are helping to raise money for seniors this summer.
The young women are helping with the Westside Health Network Society’s Funtabulous Charity Golf Tournament set for Sept. 21 at Shannon Lake Golf Course.
“We live here and we want to give back to where we live,” said Rogers, who studies social work at Ryerson University. “It’s a small town so we’re like one big family.”
“It’s really important to help those who need it,” said Suddard, a business administration student at Okanagan College.
The students are reaching out to people and businesses in the community to get sponsorships for the tournament and bring out golfers. The Funtabulous name says it all, said Suddard. “It’s Texas scramble and you really don’t have to be a good golfer at all,” said Sonia Newman, Westside Health Network Society executive director. “That’s the beauty of this tournament.”
“The atmosphere will be absolutely incredible,” said Rogers. “Delicious food, beautiful views, what more could you ask for in the Okanagan?”
All proceeds from the event go toward the Westside Health Network Society, which operates a number of programs for seniors including Walk n Talk, a free physical Àtness, socialization and health education program, visits, transportation as well as an information and referral line.
The tournament also helps raise awareness of the Westside Health Network Society.
“So many seniors don’t even know we exist and don’t know who to ask for help when they need help,” said Rogers.
The Funtabulous tournament has a shotgun start at 3:30 p.m. The barbecue dinner goes at 6:30 p.m.
Registration costs $100 per person and includes nine holes of golf, cart and barbecue dinner. A barbecue- only option is available for $45 per person. Lots of sponsorship opportunities are available. For more information, contact Sonia or Debbie at 250-768-3305 or e-mail whns @telus. net.
