GOODE’S CREEK FIRE
The following information is current as of Aug. 2 Goode’s Creek
Incident overview: Currently estimated at 1370 hectares in size. There are 32 personnel on site today. Six helicopters are assigned to the complex. This fire is classified as out of control.
Weather forecast: A weak upper ridge persists over the area. There will be a mix of sun and cloud today, with temperatures ranging between 28-33 degrees. Be advised that there is a risk of an afternoon thundershower this afternoon. Gusty winds will be present, with local afternoon gusts today reaching 35 km/h.
Fire behaviour prediction: Winds will be a bit higher today than they have been the last few days. Temperatures will be cooler; however, due to the increase in winds, there will be potential for elevated fire behaviour.
Challenges: Ground crews continue to work in extreme temperatures with no shade. Crews are also dealing with rattlesnake pits that are concealed in the steep and rocky terrain. Wednesday’s achievements: Firefighters had a successful day patrolling and extinguishing hot spots.
Thursday’s objectives: Crews will continue the same objectives as yesterday by focusing their efforts on patrolling and extinguishing hot spots. Some fire equipment will be demobilized where it is no longer needed.
Other: The Okanagan Complex is transitioning to a new incident management team. New contact information for the new fire information officers will be posted on the BC Wildfire Service wildfires of note webpage once the changeover occurs. Please be advised that even though wildfires within the complex seem to be inactive as resources are being downsized and equipment is getting demobilized, these fires will still produce smoke. The perimeters of these wildfires are being mopped-up (extinguished) and any smoke that does appear will be from fuels burning well within the middle. This smoke is anticipated.
