Expression is alive in Canada

-

Dear Editor: People including noteworthy-learned people fail to recognize or be aware of current and future ramifications of their words and actions. By today’s Canadian civilization standards, years ago was a shameful reflection of mankind's inadequacies.

As in their past, much of today’s level of civility is just as inhumane and insidious.

Humanity development is in discovery mode just like all other features of life learning, thus removing statues and other history markers would be a denial of what humans are all about.

Unfortunately people of every race never stop causing others and themselves great harm. Surely this proves people are unable to live a life of less self-inflicted adversities.

But, over time human evolutionary forces have, and are, attaining more just objectives. Hate speech and discrimination is not acceptable.

Within the last 100 years, Canadian now have access to more freedom of expression, women employed, slavery outlawed, social supports, higher-living standards, readily divorce, abortions and medical assistance in dying, to name few evolutionary changes that have created a fuller understanding of us.

Thankfully Canadians’ cultural expression is alive and active.

Admitting our inherent human make-up; there is no point in laying guilt on the past or the present people for their individual and collective adverse words and actions. We are what we are.

Canadians constituted with a million idiosyncrasies are enabling through greater understanding just civilization enhancements. Bruce Alton McGillis Penticton
