Committee work is unnecessary
Dear Editor: Oh, City of Kelowna, you are so wasteful with our money.
You take your employees so often to sit on committees and come up with vision plans. The 12 goals of the new transportation master plan (that’s a great name, team) was released the other day. It uses great words like “improve,” “enhance,” “optimize” and “reduce” costs of transportation. Next, you’ll have a committee to sit down and figure out how to deal with the new marijuana shops opening up.
It’s like watching the Netflix show called “W1A” (for those of you that haven’t heard about it, you should know it’s a parody). The staff’s task is to clarify, define, or re-define the core purpose of the BBC across all its functions and to position it confidently for the future.
The City of Kelowna committees are made up of employees who then create more unionized positions for more committees instead of tradesmen to get actual work done. They are being paid to come up with ideas. Come on! Our City of Kelowna staff should be putting on their blue collars at sporting, concerts, community festivals and parades to move traffic. They need to buy more snow removal equipment and staff to operate them — not more staff to create committees. They should stop creating plans and hire on the street-city workers that move the citizens that pay their salaries. Don’t forget to vote this fall. City councillors are needed with backgrounds in running a business. I know I will be looking for some new faces to vote for on Oct. 20. Pauline Keitly Kelowna
