Hey millenials, get out and vote!

-

Dear Editor: Good morning good people of Penticton. I want to ask, hope and plead with all of you that are able to vote to please come out this upcoming municipal election.

It’s time that the millenials start getting involved and help mold and spur change. I attended The Herald’s mayoral candidates’ forum last week. There was more than 500 people there. The turnout was fantastic but I may have counted 10 other people who, like me, were under the age of 40.

I absolutely LOVE our seniors! But, my point is the young demographic (ages 18-40) historically never comes out and votes. These are the same ones who often tell me that there is “nothing fun” to do here in what’s been the “same old, same old” in this town. Well, if you want to see change as well as new exciting things to happen in Penticton, you need to come out and make your voice heard.

It’s time for us to come out and vote. It has been a pathetic display this past decade of the turn out of young people voting. It’s time to change that.

So young people, put the keyboard down, get off the phone and empower and educate yourself on the candidiases running for council and mayor.

Early voting begins Wednesday at City Hall, then Oct. 13 at KVR Middle School and Oct. 18 at the South Main Drop In Centre. The general voting day is Oct. 20.

I hope to see you out. Ryan Graham Penticton
