Reader supports Brett Kavanaugh
Dear editor: In the Oct. 3 edition of The Courier, I was reading the editorial by city editor Pat Bulmer. I was beginning to be impressed by his well-written coverage of the USMCA agreement and his explanations. But then, my opinion of his journalistic professionalism fell apart two-thirds of the way through the column.
He could not resist making a snarky comment about Supreme Court of the United States nominee Brett Kavanaugh deciding legal cases. I researched the judge’s qualifications and he has been acclaimed as having “wide and deep credentials,” and is “well respected in the legal community.” All this is readily available online.
It is a shame that his nomination was delayed by the accusations, and I repeat that these are only accusations, regarding alleged behavior at a high school (high school!) party many years ago. Describing this alleged conduct as “a sexual assault” has been highly inaccurate. The conduct alleged would hardly fit most people’s definition of that.
Then, in the last paragraph, Bulmer sank to another low. He called my president “an orange skinned blowhard.” In my opinion, when any one stoops to “name calling,” it only shows that they have a poor command of the English language, or an inability to factually address the issues, or both.
He may not like my president, but to resort to juvenile schoolyard name calling shows a lack of journalistic integrity. I expect better from a newspaper. Perhaps managing editor Miller will take him to the woodshed for a good chat.
