Warrior defenceman heading to university

-

West Kelowna Warriors defenceman Wyatt Head, the BC Hockey League’s leading scorer among blueliners to start the season, has come to a verbal agreement to join the Quinnipiac Bobcats for next season.

Head, a 19-year-old from Kelowna, has taken his game to the next level this season, averaging almost a point per game with 10 points through 11 games. He has shone as the quarterback on the power play for the Warriors, alongside four forwards on the top unit.

“Going to see the school (in Hamden, Connecticut), and the facilities was such an amazing experience. Seeing how they're treated there by the school, and the staff they have is incredible,” Head said of his recent visit to Quinnipiac University. “You can just tell what a top-notch program they have there, and it made it easy.”

Geoff Grimwood, the Warriors’ coach and general manager, had plenty of praise for Head's performance thus far.

“Wyatt has been a really dynamic player on the back end for us, he’s offensive, and starting at the very first game against Trail, he got off to a great start from Game 1,” said Grimwood. “He’s a guy that has great vision, he can jump up into the rush, skate against some good players ... he’s one of those modern defenceman that plays a really good two-way game.”

Head and the Warriors are back in action this Friday when they travel to Merritt for a clash with the Centennials.

West Kelowna also hosts the Nanaimo Clippers on Saturday, 7 p.m. at Royal LePage Place.
