Kelowna painters display works at Peachland gallery

- By BARB AGUIAR

The Kelowna Painters Studio Society, made up of 12 local artists, opened its exhibition Saturday at the Peachland Art Gallery.

“We’re 12 artists that have been painting together for 13 to 14 years,” said Colleen J. Dyson of the society.

Dyson said while she sees bits of the other artists’ works in progress, she never sees them finished.

“When I walked in yesterday and saw it all hung, and all this work that I’d seen parts of it on occasion, I was just gobsmacked,” she said.

While individual artists in the society have exhibited at the Peachland Art Gallery before as part of the Oasis exhibition, this is the first time the Kelowna Painters Studio Society has shown at the gallery.

“It is our expressions of the area, how we feel about it, our visions of it and the stories that we’ve experienced with it,” said Dyson.

The 83 works in oils, acrylic and pastels will be on display until Nov. 4.

The Peachland Art Gallery is putting out the call for artwork for its Christmas Market that kicks off Nov. 24, called Good Things Come in Small Packages.

“We're looking for small canvases, 6 x6, 8 x 8 canvasses. The price point will be around $50 to make it more affordable for people,” said Janet Hornseth, art gallery co-ordinator.

The gallery, at 5684 Beach Ave., is open Tuesday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
