Who will control the vote, money?

-

Dear editor: Many are going to vote in the advance poll in West Kelowna, but only about 45 people that attended the Q&A with the candidates held at the Westside Alliance Church would know the following;

The following question was asked: “Which three candidates would you prefer to see elected to town council and you may include yourself?”

Jayson Zilkie was the only candidate to answer as follows: “It’s my first time running so I would love to see myself be a part of this and I think there are three people that stood outside that align with me as a person and I think that would be Stephen (Johnston), the other Jason (Friesen) and Gord (Gordon Wiebe) and I think those are the people that align well. Everyone is going to be a good choice, but I think those are the three that I would vote.”

Has an alliance been formed between some of the candidates? It is perhaps possible based on the above mentioned quotation. It also links Gord Milsom to Stephen Johnston who is pictured on the “Milsom for Mayor” campaign website as a volunteer.

It is possible that if there is an alliance between Milsom, Johnston, Friesen, Wiebe, and Zilkie, if elected, they would have more than enough votes to totally control the council, the spending and the debt levels.

While each candidate may very well be an independent thinker, the perception is evident and there is no recall process for municipal officials. Therefore, please take the abovementioned perception into your investigative consideration prior to voting.

There may be nothing nefarious here, but the optics are not good.
