Fundraiser to help reÀll PAC’s coffers
Someone ran away with the Glenrosa parents’ money
The community is coming together to help a local elementary school after money used for the students went missing.
Over the course of the summer, the Glenrosa Elementary School parent advisory council was alerted to some irregularities in its bank accounts.
A significant amount of money had been removed from the accounts, said Amber Hall with the Glenrosa PAC. “We were devastated,” she said. The money had been raised through years of hard work and fundraising efforts both by current parents at the school and parents who had children at the school previously.
The theft left the PAC unable to provide some of the things it used to, including items such as dice for math games in the classroom, a student Àeld trip to the symphony and supplementation of busing costs for off-school activities to alleviate the Ànancial burden on parents.
The PAC fund also prepaid vendors for programs such as hot lunch, daily milk delivery and hotdog days.
To try to reÀll the PAC coffers, the community is invited to a fundraising concert Sunday, Oct. 28 from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Westbank Lions Community Centre.
There will be live music from 4 to 7 p.m. including performances by the Wheely Nawties, Jimmy Leguilloux and A Boy Named Sue as well as a performance by Dance City Academy.
Kelly O’Bryan’s will have their food truck on site from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. and people can pay as much as they can afford for chicken lips and pachos, two of the restaurant’s most popular items, with the money going to the PAC.
There will also be a silent auction with items such as a 55-inch television available.
Admission is a suggested minimum $5 donation per family at the door.
“We’re hoping the community can come out enjoy some afternoon entertainment with the rest of the members of our community and help Àll the coffers back up so we can continue to provide the things for the kids that we have in the past,” said Hall.
If the fundraiser exceeds the PAC’s goals, they will put that money back into some of the other PACs in the district that need help.
“It’s not just going to beneÀt our kids,” said Hall.
“We’re hoping that maybe we will be able to raise enough money that it can beneÀt and help some of the other kids in the Central Okanagan School District.”
From the offer from a local musician to provide a fundraising concert, to the donation of the hall space and the food truck, Hall said the PAC is touched by the support of people and businesses not just in Glenrosa, but West Kelowna and even Kelowna.
“It has been the most heart-warming feeling and such and amazing thing to be a part of,” she said. It’s been so unbelievable to watch everybody come together for the kids. It echoes throughout our little Glenrosa Elementary family.”
