Do you know any invisible people? Perhaps you’ve seen someone treat a waiter, barista, or other service person as though they were invisible?

We’re all sometimes guilty of staring at the menu instead of making eye contact or yapping on an electronic device while ignoring the human being behind the till.

For the final production in Many Hats Theatre Company’s 11th season they’ve picked a classic Norm Foster, “On A First Name Basis” that deals with that very sensitive topic and much more.

World-renowned novelist and screenwriter David Kilbride was one of ‘those people.’ A wealthy, privileged, jet-setter who maintained several homes and is woefully out of touch with the realities of his world despite his stunning successes.

On the other hand there’s Lucy Hopperstaad who has worked as David’s housekeeper for 28 years providing the stable home base and clean towels to facilitate David’s life of privilege.

On a First Name Basis tells the story of David Kilbride (Eric Hanston) a successful but cantankerous, novelist who is surprised to discover that he knows nothing about his housekeeper of 28 years, Lucy Hopperstaad (Jane Pilkey) who, on the other hand, knows absolutely everything about him.

One night over some good single malt, David makes it his mission to learn all he can about Lucy in a most engaging conversation. With revelations that are surprising, funny, and extremely moving, playwright Foster unfolds a heartwarming and hilarious story as only he can!

On a First Name Basis not only has a great message but also contains the brilliant dialogue and hilarious twists that Canada's most produced playwright is known for.

Ed Schneider directs and Shannon French produces. Judy Byers and Susan Gibbs stage manage and create and decorate the set. Costumes are by Angela Moyls. Kyle Anderson designed the program and posters.
