Documentary examines homelessness

-

A new documentary aims to lessen the divide between homeless people and other citizens.

Us and Them, a film by Krist Loughton and Jennifer Abbott, will be shown Nov. 22 at the Kelowna Community Theatre.

Doors open at 6 p.m., with a market featuring artwork made by homeless people. The movie starts at 7 p.m. From 8:30 to 9:30 p.m., there’s a panel discussion.

Admission is free, but donations to Kelowna’s Journey Home anti-homelessness project are accepted.

Loughton says she made Us and Them over a 10-year period.

“I wanted to educate as many people as possible on the realities of homelessness and to encourage proactive solutions,” she said.

“I also want people to watch the film and never look at a street person, or themselves, in the same way again.”
