Chiefs pummel Summerland 7-2

-

Showing why they’re the class of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League, the Kelowna Chiefs hung a licking on the Summerland Steam on Tuesday night.

Down 1-0 after the opening frame, the Chiefs stormed back with six straight goals en route to a 7-2 win over the host Steam. Ryan Stack and Lane Paddison both scored twice for the Chiefs, while Dylan Kent, Kayson Gallant and Zach Erhardt had singles, and Shane Zilka picked up the win between the pipes.

Kelowna was only ahead 2-1 after 40 minutes, before putting it away in the third period with five goals in a 12-minute span.

The Chiefs outshot the Steam 29-22.

Kelowna (17-0-1-0-1) remains in first place in the Okanagan Division with 36 points — 12 clear of the second-place Steam (11-8-1-0-1).

The high-flying Chiefs also boast the league’s top three scorers, with Body Dale way out front with 53 points, followed by Erhardt at 44 and Devin Sutton with 39.

The Chiefs are back on the road Friday for a showdown against the Revelstoke Grizzlies (14-1-0-0-0).
