Vernon men accused of dealing death

Two Vernon men face charges after police nabbed them allegedly dealing fentanyl this week.

The RCMP targeted policing unit arrested a 50-year-old Vernon man Wednesday in the 2300 block of 43 Street for possession of drugs for the purpose of traffickin­g after it was believed he was dealing from his vehicle.

Through further investigat­ion, officers were led to an address on Browne Road, where a 25-year-old man was arrested in connection to the drug traffickin­g group.

On Thursday, officers executed a search warrant at the Browne Road address, where numerous items were seized, including: a large quantity of what is believed to be fentanyl, two restricted handguns, a large quantity of cash, body armour and other items related to drug traffickin­g.

“Our targeted policing unit continues to work against drug traffickin­g by intercepti­ng and investigat­ing criminals who operate in our city,” said Sgt. David Evans. “Getting a large amount of fentanyl and firearms off the street is important for public safety, which remains our top priority.”

The 50-year-old Vernon man faces possible charges of possession for the purpose of traffickin­g, and the 25-year-old Vernon man is facing possible charges of possession of drugs for the purpose of traffickin­g and other firearms-related charges.

Both were released from custody on conditions they appear in court.
