Capital punishment from WK Warriors

-

Six first-period goals by the West Kelowna lifted the Warriors to a 7-2 victory over the visiting Cowichan Valley Capitals, Sunday.

The Warriors didn’t waste any time scoring early on. Lucas Cullen was able to get the Warriors on the board within the first two minutes to make it 1-0. The Warriors would then go on the power-play only a minute later, and it was a nifty passing play between Chase Dubois and Mike Hardman leaving a wide open Parm Dhaliwal making it 2-0.

Only 90 seconds later, the Warriors would make it 3-0 thanks to Dubois connecting off a Hardman pass for the Warriors’ second power-play goal of the afternoon.

The Warriors began to run away with the game at the 11 minute mark of the period with Garrett Ewert scoring his first goal of the season and then, only 23 seconds later, Willie Reim received a Hardman pass to make it 5-0.

The five goals scored in under 10 minutes was not a club record, as the record was set in October 2013 when they scored five in only 5:46, interestingly enough, versus the Capitals. Hardman would add another goal for the Warriors late in the period to make it 6-0 by the first intermission.

The Warriors would take their foot off the gas pedal throughout the remainder of the game allowing two goals.

One notable sequence was midway through the second period when Warriors forward Eric Olson and Capitals defender Doug Scott dropped the gloves to the delight of the home crowd.

The Capitals also had numerous ejections throughout the hockey game, most notably a repeat offender in Brady Lynn. Lynn was previously suspended this year for spearing a player and received a 10-game suspension. This time, Lynn was ejected for kicking Wyatt Head when he was down on the ice.

The Warriors would finish the game with a goal in the third from Max Bulawka and stellar goaltending from Brock Baier, who would end up stopping 36 of 38 shots between the pipes.

ICE CHIPS: Shots on goal were 38-37 in favour of the Capitals ... Three stars were Dubois (one goal, three assists), Baier and Hardman (one goal, two assists) ... Olson was the Fortis Energy Player of the Game ... The Warriors’ next game is Friday versus the Penticton Vees at the South Okanagan Events Centre, beginning at 7:05 p.m. The game is broadcast live on the Warriors website (click on “Listen Live.”)
