Kelowna shed goes up in flames

The shed behind the Laurel Building in downtown Kelowna is no more.

The wooden structure beside the popular historic events venue was destroyed by fire late Thursday afternoon. The cause of the blaze isn’t known yet.

Man linked to 10 thefts

An Enderby man arrested by Vernon RCMP has been connected to at least 10 thefts.

Police say that after they caught up with an alleged prolific offender at Cedar Park Inn in Enderby, they found multiple credit cards and forms of identifica­tion on him.

“This male is well known to police and has had multiple charges in the past in relation to similar offences,” said Const. Kelly Brett.

“The stolen property that was recovered during the arrest has been linked to at least 10 different victims and files currently under investigat­ion by the RCMP.”

Bet on 1st baby of 2019

Gamblers can place a bet on which B.C. hospital will welcome the province’s first baby born in 2019.

Kelowna General Hospital has odds of 19 to one, and Vernon Jubilee Hospital has odds of 41 to one.

There are four long shot hospitals, including Penticton Regional at 51 to one.

A total of 24 hospitals are on the betting list. Gamblers can also choose any hospital not on the list.

The novelty bet is available on the government-run website PlayNow.com, with wagering ending on Dec. 29.
