Sometimes a quote can sink a public figure, other times they can build a legacy around a brief sound bite.
Here is our second annual New Year’s list of the best quotes of 2018 from Kelowna and Central Okanagan residents — the good, the bad and the funny.
1. “This Trump-style politicking threatens to undo all the good work we’ve done together, and for what?”
—Colin Basran to opponent Tom Dyas at a mayoral allcandidates forum.
2. “I can’t live with anybody harmoniously.”
—Central Okanagan School District chair Moyra Baxter’s tongue-and-cheek remark when asked if there was a division among the seven trustees.
3. “I’m not going to let Erin O’Toole come to Kelowna and start grandstanding on veterans’ issues when he’s got zero credibility on it,”
—Member of Parliament Stephen Fuhr on the Conservative MP’s Twitter taunt to publicly debate veterans’ issues in Kelowna.

—Peachland mayor Cindy Fortin, who was re-elected following a random draw after she and Harry Gough tied.

—Cindy Cannan, wife of former MP Ron Cannan, in a letter to the editor which criticized highly-respected businessman Andre Blanleil for endorsing Basran. The gasps were head across the valley.
