The Daily Courier

Albas a fiscally conservative MP

-

Dear Editor:

I was interested to read the letter in The Daily Courier on Dec. 28 titled “Flip, flop and fly by Dan Albas.”

The letter writer (Rick St. Martin) was writing about his dislike of supposed negativity by the Conservative Party. Ironically his very letter was the ultimate in negativity and a blatant demonstration of hypocrisy.

We all know that the election in October will be more about Justin Trudeau than about MPs Stephen Fuhr and/or Dan Albas.

So, although Kelowna-Lake Country Liberal Fuhr might be a good person, his chances of re-election are slim based on the disasters inflicted upon us by the current prime minister. Trudeau preaches free speech, but tells church groups that they won’t get their grant money unless they confirm their support for abortion. Trudeau thinks the government knows better than us how to spend our money. So for him, it’s OK to have high taxes so he can hand out “infrastructure spending” on a discretionary basis.

Of course it was his father, Pierre, who got the deficit spending going, leading to huge government debt. So like father like son, support for “tax and spend” is Trudeau’s answer.

Albas, MP for Central OkanaganSimilkameen-Nicola, is a financial conservative; and what does that mean? It means that he believes that you should have control over how you spend your money. He is passionate about controlling government spending and keeping taxes as low as possible. St. Martin is upset that Albas supported Maxime Bernier for the Conservative leader, but does not support him now. When the leadership contest is over, MPs support the winner. That is loyalty to the party and, yes, Albas believes in that, even if Bernier doesn’t.

When I was in Halifax this last summer, I had the pleasure of meeting Geoff Regan, the Liberal MP for Halifax West and the Speaker of the House of Commons. I asked him if he knew Albas. He was very gracious in telling me that he thought highly of him. When a Liberal MP speaks highly of a Conservative MP, it says something very good about both of them. We are lucky to have Albas as our MP; a more conscientious and competent person is hard to imagine.
