Okanagan grower inks supply deal with pharmacy

Flowr Group to supply medical marijuana to Shoppers Drug Mart

- By Daily Courier Staff

Okanagan cannabis grower Flowr Group will supply medical marijuana to Shoppers Drug Mart.

Flowr will supply Shoppers with its FlowrRx brand of premium medical cannabis products. Flowr also announced that Shoppers’ new e-commerce site (shoppersdrugmart.ca/cannabis) will be the exclusive direct-to-patient online provider of FlowrRx products.

The products initially will be sold online only as Canadian regulations currently restrict the sale of medical cannabis in retail pharmacies, Flowr said in a news release.

The companies on Wednesday announced a three-year agreement with a possible twoyear renewal.

“We believe that partnering with Shoppers Drug Mart to provide patients with premium medical cannabis is a game-changing opportunity for Flowr’s medical business and we look forward to working with their team,” said Tom Flow, Flowr’s co-CEO, in a news release.

“FlowrRx products are grown in facilities designed to pharmaceutical industry manufacturing standards and using strict processes that should enable us to provide patients with both the high quality they seek and the consistent benefits they need.”

Flowr has its head office in Markham, Ont., and an 85,000-square-foot production facility in Kelowna at the border with Lake Country. The facility opened in the fall as marijuana sales were legalized. The company has been ramping up production and expanding since.

Flowr is provincially and nationally approved to sell cannabis to the B.C. Liquor Distribution Branch and across the country.

Shoppers’ e-commerce platform for medical cannabis launched Tuesday, a month after Health Canada licensed the company to sell the product online.

Product information is available nationally, but Shoppers Drug Mart can initially only sell medical cannabis to patients in Ontario. Patients will be required to take a medical document similar to a prescription to an Ontario pharmacy to begin the process.

Specialized advisers will then contact patients, review their medical history and provide support with online registration and product selection.

Shoppers Drug Mart says it has signed supply agreements with 10 licensed producers.
