More impressive results for the Big White racers
The Big White Ski Club produced some fantastic results in the Nancy Greene South Zone Race this past Sunday at Apex Ski Resort.
This race was the first of the season for the youngest racers in the BWSC Blazer program, aged 5-11.
There were five gold medals won by this crew, with a club “podium sweep” in the 2009 Men’s age class.
Originally 50-plus racers from BWSC planned to attend, but after the road closure between Peachland and Summerland on Saturday, only 15 were able to take the long detour to get to the race just outside of Penticton.
There were a total of 71 racers in attendance from Apex, Baldy and Big White.
In the aforementioned Men’s 2009 race, Big White placed four skiers in the top five, with Hunter Kay winning ahead of teammates Ryan Rebagliati in second, Aidan Carreon in third and Oliver Yanow in fifth.
Big White’s Keir Pillips won the 2008 Men’s race, while Benjamin Barbaza placed second in the 2010 Men’s event ahead of Oliver Pillips in sixth. And in the 2012 Men’s race, Henry Barbaza also finished second.
In the Women’s races, Tabitha Taylor was first and Ashley Kay second in the 2007 class; Layla Styles was first, Mikalah Taylor was third and Lenna Barbaza was sixth in the 2009 class; Tatum Styles won the 2012 class in first place; and Adriana Carreaon finished second in the 2013 class.
